I love all this banter about getting ready for winter (tires et al) Why don't people think about batteries as well?

I advise people to check their batteries, nobody complies, and such a saga ensues.

I love how BMW refuses to install a block heater in these things. In North America it does get cold enough that no matter how well designed the engine is it needs a little help

we haven't had issues with a car with a fresh battery, my mother's Odyssey. The Jetta and the BMW have the original batteries as far as I'm concerned. The cranking is really weak on both cars.

its true they go dead quick especially in the winter. At the BMW dealerships they have a van that goes around just to jump the cars on the lot with dead batteries as they have so many electronics on them.
